Diese extrem seltene B17 D mit dem Namen „The Swoose“ befindet sich im Lager des National Air and Space Museum (NASM) Suitland, Maryland. „The Swoose“ ist die einzige B-17D die das erste Jahr des Krieges im Pazifik überstand und bis nach 1945 als VIP-Transporter im Dienst blieb. Danach war sie über 40 Jahre eingelagert und wird für die neue Ausstellung des NASM auf dem Dulles International Airport restauriert, wo sie ab 2004 ausgestellt werden soll.
This extremely rare B-17D with the Name “The Swoose” remains in storage with the National Air and Space Museum at Suitland, Maryland. "The Swoose" is the sole B-17D survivor of the first year of the Pacific War and continued in service through 1945 as a VIP transport. It's been disassembled for the past 40 years but may be reassembled for display at the new NASM annex facility at Dulles International Airport in 2004. |
